This was the MOST WONDERFUL Italian experience we've ever had. Berenice, the owner, is simply the best!! We had 50 people staying at all the different villas for a fantastic photography workshop, and everyone left saying it was the best travel experience of their lives. I highly recommend Palazzo Sarteano to anyone, whether just to rent the castle only, or for a larger event with more rooms. I will be holding events regularly here in the future because of my great experience here.
This was an amazing place to stay in the heart of the Chianti region! The grounds are amazing, well maintained, and steeped with character. Our apartment was very spacious and beautifully decorated for the unique ‘Italian Castle’ feel. The views are beautiful from the top of this little mountain, particularly from the pool! We were a group of cyclists and the last few kilometers of the road are gravel, so be prepared to start your morning at the wonderful coffee bar at the bottom of the hill. Also, in town are a grocery store, butcher, and restaurant. Nearby towns host wineries, restaurants, and shopping. However, our stay was particularly spectacular because of our hosts Stefano and Sergio. They were super accommodating and offer bonus features such as daily bread delivery. The Villa Fabbroni also produces its own delicious wine and olive oil. The ‘pièce de résistance’ was the restaurant. The ambience is amazing (arched brick ceilings and stone walls) but the food was incredible. It is all homemade by Stefano, Sergio and their staff. The restaurant is only open on weekends but we loved their food so much we made a special request for additional meals (you can do this if you have 10+). Foodies be warned, these were some of our best meals during our entire stay in Italy. Highly recommended! Thank you!
The Villa is a great place for larger groups or families to gather. You must know that this is a newer building (approx 3 years in 2012) With this said, its pretty authentic and truly gives you that Tuscan feeling. The backdrop is beautiful!! Early morning views over the valley, ahh I miss Borgo Toscano!!!
We have had a magnificent time with our stay at the Castle at Montegugoni . We rented one of the villas inside the castle for the month and had 4 of our children come and visit witn us for a week . The staff were lovely and very helpful . The restaurant on site was so handy for meals and very accommodating for when our family were there. The country side is beautiful and surroundings villages are very accessible from the castle with your car . There is plenty of information given to you by staff for all surrounding villages . It is only about 29 km from Florence and we made at least 8 visits there . We made trips from there to Rome , Assisi ,Cinque Terre, Pisa , San Giminano , Seina,and Arezzo . A lovely winery up the road from the Castle is fascinating and one of the most prestigious Italian wine makers Frescobaldi Family . I have no hesitation in recommending Castle Di Montegufoin to fellow travellers.
We would be very pleased if you could pass on our thanks to both Aida and Massimo who acted as perfect hosts for our villa. We are sorry that our Italian is not up to explaining our thanks in the local language.
The only comment we can think of to improve the whole experience would be if the directions to the property could be updated, since on ‘final approach’ the lone pine tree is no longer standing – and confused all three groups that drove to the property.
Other than that, the greeting (along with grapes and olive oil), the help during our stay, the house, pool, gardens, location, ability to walk to town, local restaurants, etc was absolutely perfect. Thank you.
This is our third stay at this beautiful villa and we feel like we are coming "home" when we arrive. The villa is situated in a spectacular position to enjoy the beautiful Tuscan countryside, with views of the Banfi castle and the small village of Camigliano across the valley. The caretaker for the villa, Tiziana, is very helpful and is a wonderful cook as well. The wine made from the vineyards on the property is excellent and we are so appreciative that the wine makers share it with us. The ability to rent additional rooms if the group is larger provides great flexibility when booking this villa. This is one of my favorite places to stay in Italy and would highly recommend it.
Our group ( 4 couples ) booked this villa on the recommendation of work colleagues and the basis of reviews. We were not disappointed . The location on a hillside in Ripoli near Monterchi provides wonderful views and allows easy access to towns such as Citerna and Anghiari. Arezzo is half an hour away and worth a visit as well as providing access to the train to Florence. The villa is very comfortable with plenty of indoor and outdoor areas to relax and eat and drink. The tower is a must for afternoon drinks to enjoy the view down the valley. The kitchen is well equipped complete with dishwasher allowing groups to prepare their own meals. There are restaurants near Monterchi in Citerna ( the Belvedre), on the road to Citta Di Castello (Pieva la Vecchia) and at La Ville (pizzas). The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and ensuite bathrooms are clean and adequate. rosado, the owner, is extremely helpful and endeavours to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Overall, we all agreed it was the perfect way to spend two weeks in Italy.
We stayed in Terrazza which as the name suggests has a wonderful elevated terrace looking out of the private gardens and tuscan country side. The property itself is very good. The features of the property are the outside gardens and pool with are fantastic. Riccardo is a warm and gracious host.
